Napoleon’s first chance to prove himself came in 1793, when he helped lead the French artillery to attack the British. In Napoleon’s first battle as an artillery commander, he took his men and guns to new levels. He trained his men and provided them with bigger, better guns.

In pouring rain, Napoleon Bonaparte helped launch a daring, fierce attack on the British harbor.

Becoming a General

In just four months, Napoleon went from being a Captain to a General. He was twenty-four at the time and needed to be twenty-five to be accepted as a General. Napoleon lied on the forms that he filled out, and said that he was in fact twenty-five, and got the job as a General. As newly appointed General, Napoleon decided that in order to destroy Briton, he and his army must destroy Egypt. He was determined to make Egypt a French colony. In 1778-1779 he campaigned in Eygpt.
